Asia Society Texas’ Culture Camps seek to advance young learners’ understanding of the world through fun, interactive, and meaningful activities.

Camps are designed to engage students with Asian art, culture, and history.

In Asia Society Texas’ 11th year of Culture Camps, students embark on hands-on programs delving into Asian traditions, arts, and culture.

Asia Society’s Got Talent!

Get inspired by traditional arts and pop culture of Asia, from Indian classical dance to K-pop! Learn about the history and backgrounds of various Asian performing arts while preparing for your own performance.
Recommended for students ages 6–9.

Rising Artists: The Nature of Symbols

Dive into calligraphy traditions and learn how nature has influenced this art form across Asia and beyond. Learn different techniques, scripts, and tools to create your own expressive artwork.
Recommended for students ages 9–12.

Manga POP!

Attention, artists and manga fanatics! Create your own comics inspired by the Japanese manga style, with opportunities for Beginner and Advanced students to bring their comics to life on paper and the web.
Recommended for students ages 9–14.

Documentary Filmmaking

In this two-week camp, join a television producer to learn the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking while creating an original movie that explores the themes of community building and development.
Recommended for students ages 12–14.

Asia Society Young Leaders Institute

The Young Leaders Institute (YLI) is a week-long summer program for high school students that promotes global competence, elevates leadership skills, and connects students from across diverse backgrounds and experiences. Since launching in 2016, YLI has provided new perspectives and strengthened skills for more than 400 students.

During the Institute, participants will work in teams throughout the week researching, debating, and presenting solutions for the challenges facing our world. With mentorship and guidance from Asia Society Texas staff, students will be provided opportunities to develop more in-depth knowledge about global issues; to hone communication, collaboration, and presentation skills for the future; and to engage respectfully and thoughtfully with experts, staff, and peers to transform their understanding of leadership.

Applications for the 2024 Young Leaders Institute are accepted on a rolling basis, with students encouraged to apply early to secure their placement. There is limited capacity for each session, and the deadline to apply is Friday, May 31, 2024. 

Session 1: Japan’s Global Impact

Explore Japan’s significant influence on the global stage, from the vibrant world of J-pop and captivating manga to groundbreaking advancements in AI and robotics. Dive into Japan’s multifaceted contributions to culture, technology, innovation, and global policy.

Session 2: Renewable Energy and Climate Solutions

Learn how renewables and energy transition initiatives are reshaping the global economic, environmental, and energy outlook. Gain insights on how policymakers, industries, and nonprofit, and international organizations are creating innovative solutions for a more sustainable and greener future.

Session 3: Human Rights and International Security

Examine the intricate intersection of global security and the protection of human rights in the context of refugee crises. Gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities for international cooperation in ensuring the rights and safety of diverse populations.
