CPR Training: getting CPR Certified

Do you know what to do in an emergency? CPR training could save a life; be it your family, friends, or even a stranger, getting certified is easier than ever with a wide variety of options that conform to your schedule and location, with even online classes on offer now!

Why Should I Get CPR Certified?

Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Paraphrased from the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, more than 350,000 people of all ages (specifically not in hospitals) die from cardiac arrest in the U.S, making it a leading cause of death in the nation. For every minute that passes without intervention, survival chances decrease by 7-10%. Ultimately, only one-third of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from bystanders—meaning that about only 10% of victims survive.

You or your loved ones don’t have to become a part of this statistic; with the mental preparedness and tools given during CPR training, you can prepare to act quickly and correctly in an emergency that might leave others floundering.

Specific classes catered towards infants and those with compromised immune systems or possible respiratory diseases exist as well. You don’t have to do mouth-to-mouth to perform CPR correctly, nor do you have to worry about possibly hurting your baby. Options exist for people of all ages and conditions.

Not Just For Humans…

Do you share your home with at-risk or elderly pets? Are you a person who works with animals in your day-to-day life? Training in pet CPR is an option as well; with classes offered in similar formats to the human counterpart, giving yourself the tools to act in a drastic situation may mean the difference between a long, happy companionship, or beloved pet leaving your home too soon.

How Do I Find CPR Training Classes?

The American Red Cross organization offers an online service that allows you to find offered classes anywhere near you. This neat search function also lists prices, and whether the class is held in a classroom or online. The American Heart Association offers something similar as well, as well as offering the framework to create a CERP—that is, a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan, which is a written document that can be used as reference in the home, at school, or for your workplace or sports facility.

Other options for finding classes depend on your location, so be sure to check your local news and events to see if there isn’t any organization offering!

What Does CPR Training Look Like?

Well, it’s not totally like the movies, as CPR itself has grown and developed alongside current medical knowledge.  The most important thing to know is that training itself will only take about 3 hours; that’s 3 hours of your day spent learning how to save a life. Beyond the actual technical training, CPR instructors will also dispel certain myths, explaining the inner mechanisms of how CPR works and what it does to the body when you’re working to keep someone alive. Overall, CPR training is a useful afternoon jaunt that may serve to save you or someone else in the future. Don’t delay—sign up for a CPR Training class now!
