USS Lexington- Adventure Aboard LEX

The best adventures happen when you aren’t staring at a screen. Step into history aboard the USS Lexington Museum. Here you can learn all about LEX and her 40 years in service as a real WWII aircraft carrier, test your tactical skills and knowledge, and see how naval teams worked, lived and fought together. Exciting for all ages, there’s something for everyone right here on the water in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Camp Lex

USS Lexington is calling all campers from schools, scouts and non-profit youth groups to gear up for an overnight adventure. Our one or two-night programs allow participants to bunk right aboard the ship and explore the same passageways as the heroes who once lived here. Campers leave with a special badge—and memories that will last a lifetime. (Ages 5+)

The Camp LEX one night  stay is an ideal program for young scouts, homeschoolers, and adventure seekers aged 7 years or older. The overnight itinerary serves as a lesson plan and includes all five tour routes of the ship, stories of historical events from her past, a scavenger hunt, a film in the 3D MEGA Theater, LEX ghost stories, two trips through the chow line, bunking in original crew quarters, an unforgettable patriotic flag ceremony, and so much more!

Camp LEX also offers two-night overnight programs and that includes a bonus gift for each group and some additional fun—one free flight simulator ride for each member of your group!

We offer several badge workshops  that can be arranged for your second day aboard, available at an additional charge. We can also help your troop or group arrange to spend the day working on a volunteer service project, whether on the ship swabbing the deck or washing aircraft, cleaning up a park on North Beach, or working with the rangers at Padre Island National Seashore, which is about 30 minutes away.

Pearl Harbor: Course of Valor

This state-of-the-art multi-media exhibit, on Tour Route 2 in the ship’s foc’sle, features a film montage that retells the story of the attack on Pearl Harbor, enveloping you in this historic and devastating event. A graphic map of Pearl Harbor at a 1/2400 scale sets the scene with models of the ships docked in position, just as they were on the day of that fateful attack.

The events unfold in front of your eyes through realistic battle animations, an 8,000-watt sound system, and transducers that shake the walkway with each rumbling explosion. To the side, you will see the Japanese plan of attack as a 1941 model radio fills the air with FDR’s famous address to Congress, “A Date Which Will Live in Infamy.”
